Sked to include 'Malcolm,' 'Simpsons,' 'Jordan'
TORONTO — CanWest Global Communications laid out a lineup for next season thick with new buys and a heavy counterprogramming strategy for its webs Global Television and CH.
Global will simulcast Fox’s Sunday night lineup of “Malcolm in the Middle” and “The Simpsons” and air new buys “Arrested Development,” “The Partner” and “Crossing Jordan.”
“As the NFL season winds down and Fox introduces the Kelsey (Grammer) sketch show, and baseball winds down and Fox introduces ‘The Partner,’ we are in synch with them so we can provide flow and stability,” said programming VP Adam Ivers.
Midseason entries include “Blind Justice” and “American Dad.”
A duopoly in Ontario and British Columbia and a strong appetite for U.S. fare give CanWest some bulk-buying clout — it is the largest foreign purchaser at the L.A. Screenings.

“Joey” will bow Wednesday nights, and “The Champ” and “The Jury” are slotted for Thursdays, with “The Inside” and “Jonny Zero” stepping in later in the season.
Global skews younger of the two webs, and on Monday nights, viewers can see the NBC lineup “Fear Factor,” “Las Vegas” and “LAX.”
The slightly older-skewing CH will air “North Shore,” “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Two and a Half Men.” Later in the season, CH will introduce “Still Standing,” “Listen Up,” “The Swan” and “24.”
The web is sticking with “Survivor” and “Apprentice,” “Without a Trace,” “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy,” “24” and “Judging Amy.”
On the homegrown front, joining improvised drama “Train 48” will be reality renovation series “The Block” and reality shows “Last Chance for Romance” and “The Temps.”
“Andromeda” and “Blue Murder” are back, and “Wild Card” is returning for a second season.
